How the build works
The core of this Protection Warrior build is Rage from defense. Shield Specialization raises your block chance by 5% and gives 5 Rage on every block. Master of Defense does the same for dodges and parries while you hold a shield. The more you get hit, the more you can spend.
Threat comes from Defiance (+15% threat in Defensive Stance with a shield) and Improved Revenge (+60% Revenge damage). Vanguard lets you Charge from Defensive Stance, so you never have to swap stances to open a pull.
The last five points go into survival. Anticipation reaches +20 Defense Skill at 5/5. Last Stand gives you 30% of your max health for 20 sec, and Concussion Blow is a 5 sec stun for a dangerous caster or a runner.
Leveling tips
Take Shield Specialization first; every guide agrees on that. Improved Revenge follows, then the first two Anticipation points to open row 3. Master of Defense and Defiance come next, and Vanguard arrives around level 25.
Protection is a strong solo leveling choice in WoW Forever. Gather a few mobs, Thunder Clap, then Revenge and Cleave. Your Rage stays high as long as things are hitting you. Dungeon XP changes also favour tanks who can pull several packs.
If you only quest, you can move Defiance into Improved Thunder Clap; threat matters less when you are alone.
Changes in WoW Forever
Much of the tree is new. Master of Defense, Vanguard and Focused Rage did not exist in Classic, and Shield Specialization now also generates Rage on block. Toughness was removed in the October changes, Iron Will moved into Protection, and Bastion (+10% damage with a shield) now sits in row 6. Revenge also scales with Attack Power in the latest build data.
Shield Slam stays at the bottom of the tree. At the level 30 cap you tank without it, which is why these Warrior talents lean on Revenge and Defiance.
Toward level 60
Provisional: the only full level 60 build so far comes from a simulator. It puts about 31 points in Protection (Improved Thunder Clap, Focused Rage, Bastion, Improved Shield Wall, Shield Slam) and 20 in Fury for Cruelty, Unbridled Wrath and Enrage, skipping Anticipation and Vanguard. That optimises threat and damage rather than survival, so expect real tanks to keep some defensive points. Confidence is low.
